Preparation and Storage Keep the surface of the veneer clean and free from dirt and oils. For printing, use the single sheet loading procedure. Test the feeding by loading and ejecting a sheet to check for any feeding problems. Be sure to set your printer for the maximum material thickness possible (often the card stock or envelope setting). Try to keep your printer's rollers clean, and make sure the edges of the veneer have not been damaged during transport. It helps to store the veneer in plastic, under a stack of books or other similar weight. Printing on SMartGRAINTM We recommend printing a small two-inch square image on a part of the veneer to enable you to adjust the color, brightness, contrast and any other adjustments of your image before moving to full-scale printing. Repeat until the desired results are achieved. Remember that you are printing on a material that is not white, so some color changes may be needed to obtain the desired results. Colors and transparency can be manipulated to achieve very interesting and attractive results. Use your printer's most detailed image settings. You should also use the ink settings that apply the least amount of ink. If you are unsure, consult your printer owner's manual. Your Authorized Dealer can also provide support in this area as well. Securing the Image Once the desired image has been successfully printed, the material should be handled with care, and allowed to fully dry. A spray finish must be used to protect the printed veneer. A number of spray finishes have been successfully used for this purpose, but again we recommend testing a small portion before broad application. Make sure the finish is thoroughly dry before proceeding. Self-adhesive laminate material available in office supply stores works well for a quick protective finish. Again we suggest a trial project. Attaching the Veneer to your Project Several methods can be used to attach the veneer to the target material. Almost any kind of wood glue or contact adhesive will work. Double-faced adhesive films also work very well but should NOT be used in conjunction with a solvent-based finish. Use a clean sheet of paper to cover and protect the veneer while applying pressure to form a bond and follow the glue manufacturer's instructions. One or two spray coats of finish should be applied before attaching the veneer to the target material or project, and more can be applied once the veneer is in place. As always, a test project should be completed before attempting something on a larger scale. Promise of Quality We at Imaging Alternatives, Inc.
